Background Information:

Swing Central, held at the Round Barn Banquet Center is one of the highlights of the year, and feature Central's award winning jazz bands and combos, along with other area bands. The Swing Central 2008 event has many community business sponsors that help underwrite the cost of the event and all proceeds go directly to the band program. This fundraising is done so we can to continue to allow students the opportunity to learn and perform in some of the best concert band, marching band and jazz festivals in the state and nationally.

This event being a major fundraiser of the Band Boosters, also goes to support students through instrument purchase and repair, the purchase of music, paying for specialized instructors, scholarships for music education, and registration for festivals and competitions.

In recent years, the jazz bands alone have been recognized at such events as:

• Jazz Ensemble selected in 2007 to compete at the world famous Monterey Jazz Festival in Monterey California

• Jazz Ensemble selected for the second time to perform at the 2007 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago

• Honor band at 2006 University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire Jazz Festival

• Selected to participate in the prestigious Essentially Ellington Festival at Lincoln Center in 2005

• Division winner at 2005 Berkley College of Music High School Jazz Festival

• Honor band at Purdue University Jazz Festival 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007

• One of eight high schools selected to compete in the 2004 North Texas State Jazz Festival

• One of two high schools selected to participate at the 2002 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago
